April 28th & 29th
What a busy 2 days we had in our classroom! Students learned about life on the farm, Mrs. Kendra began end-of-the-year assessments, Mrs. Karen brought in popsicles just because our kiddos are so awesome, and students worked on some special things that can't be shared on the blog. We don't want to ruin any surprises. ;)
Next week students will finish up their numbers by learning the number 15 and they'll learn their last letter, too!
April 21st & 22nd
This week's theme was plants. Students learned about the parts of plants, what they need in order to survive, and that some plants are foods we eat.
The kiddos loved getting down and dirty on Friday. Each child planted their own cup of grass seed. These stayed at school and Mrs. Tracy is watering them for us and making sure they get plenty of sunshine.
The students will get to observe the growth that has occurred the next time they are at school. I am sure they will be excited with what they see because we learned that seeds do not turn into plants/flowers/trees overnight. Planting something is a great lesson in patience.
Enjoy the photos below!
Learning and coloring the different parts of a flower.
Using fine motor skills to glue a piece of yarn into the shape of the letter of the week, Z.
Adding seeds to their flowers. Students were allowed to use as many seeds as they wanted. The only catch was they had to be able to count the number of seeds they had. We definitely have some kiddos who liked to count high!
Students planted their grass seeds on Friday. I know they will be excited to watch them grow. They will be sent home in the following weeks.
Below are a few more photos taken on Friday of last week. (April 15th)
Students created their own insect out of a variety of shapes we have learned. All of the insects were one-of-a-kind. The only similarities were everyone's had 3 sections for the body and everyone's had 6 legs, because that's what makes an insect an insect. Each student named their insect as well. They were adorable!
Students practiced tracing the letter of the week on Mrs. Kendra's iPad.
Students are enjoying the potting soil and fake flowers in the red sensory table. They will be excited to learn about plants next week!
April 14th & 15th
This week students learned all about insects.
(Mrs. Kendra & Mrs. Laura decided to move Plants & Gardening back one week.)
We discussed what creepy crawlers were our favorites and which ones were our least favorites. Mrs. Kendra shared books and songs about ladybugs, caterpillars, crickets, and butterflies, just to name a few. Your child even brought home an issue of My Big World. It taught us all about ants! Our fun from this week is pictured below.
Students practiced counting to the number 14 while creating a caterpillar at the same time. Each student used their fingerprints to create their work of art.
Students painted the adorable insect below with a fly swatter, so don't be surprised if your child requests to do the same with yours at home.
(No insects were harmed in this painting activity.)
The kiddos were "digging" the items in the sensory table this week. Mrs. Kendra filled it with potting soil, fake flowers, fake insects, and gardening tools. All of the kiddos put their green thumbs to work.
April 7th & 8th
This week students learned what life is like at the pond. Check out our fun week below!
On Thursday, Mrs. Kendra taught the students the song, Five Little Speckled Frogs. Then they practiced cutting while doing a number ordering activity. The kiddos had to cut and put 5 speckled frogs in numerical order.
Students worked with Mrs. Jennifer to create the life cycle of a frog with their fingerprints.
Mrs. Kendra's little guy, Tristan, was a special visitor on Thursday. Mrs. Kendra was so proud of all of her LAP kiddos for treating him so nicely and looking out for him, especially since it was his first time at school. :)
The kiddos LOVED making duck pond puppets with Mrs. Karen on Friday. It was such a fun and interactive craft!
Our letter of the week was Q and the number 13 was introduced.
On Thursday we had neighborhood time with Mrs. Laura's class again, since the weather wasn't cooperative. Then, on Friday, we were in the Minds-in-Motion room. All of our little ones are turning into little monkeys when it comes to scaling the rock wall.
